About the author / illustrator

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is an American professional stock car racing driver, champion team owner, businessman, television analyst for NBC Sports Group, and inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He won a record 15-straight NASCAR Most Popular Driver awards from 2003 to 2017, consecutive NASCAR Busch Series Championships in 1998 and 1999, and the prestigious Daytona 500 in 2004 and 2014. He is a two-time New York Times bestselling author, including his 2018 book Racing to the Finish. Dale lives in Mooresville, North Carolina, with his wife, Amy, and their two daughters, Isla and Nicole.

Ela Smietanka, a Polish illustrator, began drawing as a child and later graduated from the Faculty of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Now a freelancer, she lives in Krakow with her husband, two sons, and their cat, Zuzia. Ela combines pencils, paints, and Photoshop in her work, continually exploring new digital techniques. She enjoys cycling to energetic music and listening to audiobooks while working. If not an illustrator, she would be a dancer.
