About the Author

Known as "The Bard of Avon," William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon around April 1564. His father, John Shakespeare, was a successful local businessman, and his mother, Mary Arden, was the daughter of a wealthy landowner. In 1582, eighteen-year-old William married Anne Hathaway, and together they had three children: daughter Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. Tragically, Hamnet died at the age of eleven. Shakespeare went on to become the most celebrated playwright and poet in the English language, and his works — including Julius Caesar — continue to be performed, studied, and reimagined around the world more than 400 years after his death.
